Marquette Opens Fall Campaign at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

The Golden Eagles sent four to the local event
MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's tennis team kicked off its first weekend of the fall season at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic with four Golden Eagles competing in the 43rd annual event.
In doubles action, Natalija Popovic and Fleur Eggink took down the No. 3 seed from Syracuse with a 9-7 win in the opening round and followed with an 8-4 victory over Colorado State before falling to Oklahoma State, 8-2 in the quarterfinals.
Newcomers Alexandrina Chinikona and Elisabeth Desmarais joined for an 8-6 win over Colorado State in the opening round of doubles action.
Desmarais was the lone MU player to win her opening round of singles play as she topped her opponent from the University of Cincinnati in a pair of 6-2 decisions before falling the round of 32.
The Golden Eagles will continue fall action at the Hoosiers Invitational beginning September 28.
