MU has doubled its goal scoring output in the last 130 minutes
SOUTH ORANGE, New Jersey – Sophomore Alyssa Bombacino scored her first three goals of the season as the Marquette University women's soccer team rolled to an easy 5-0 victory over Seton Hall at Owen T. Carroll Field.
The Golden Eagles (5-8-1, 2-2-1 BIG EAST) picked up a crucial three points in the league standings after jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the 27th minute on Bombacino's second score.
Her first goal came in the eighth minute off a Kylie Sprecher assist and she completed the hat trick just after the halftime break in the 51st minute on an unassisted marker.
Classmate and fellow 2018 BIG EAST All-Freshman Team selection Katrina Wetherell also found her way onto the scoresheet in the 21st minute for her second goal in the last three matches. Redshirt junior forward Abby Hess closed out the scoring in the 90th minute with her first goal of the season.
Marquette held a 15-6 edge in shots on the afternoon and senior goalkeeper Maddy Henry notched her third clean sheet of the season with a pair of saves.
Up until Alex Campana's 61th minute goal at St. John's on Thursday night with MU trailing, 2-0, the Golden Eagles had scored eight goals in 1,220 minutes of game action in 2019. The last time MU had won a match by five goals also came against Creighton, a 7-2 victory on Sept. 25, 2014.
