
Bombacino and Campana earn BIG EAST honors

Bombacino recorded her first career hat trick and Campana posted three points in a 2-0 week
NEW YORK – Marquette University's Alex Campana is the BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week, while sophomore Alyssa Bombacino was named to the women's soccer weekly honor roll, it was announced on Monday.
The pair helped the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 week, which included a double overtime victory on Thursday at St. John's and a 5-0 shutout win at Seton Hall.
Down 2-0 in the second half at St. John's, Campana came off the bench and scored MU's first of three straight goals to rally and earn the comeback victory. At Seton Hall on Sunday, the rookie helped Bombacino notch a hat trick, assisting on her third goal of the game. Campana also tallied five shots on the week.
Bombacino notched the first hat trick in BIG EAST play this season with a trio of scores at Seton Hall on Sunday. The sophomore netted the game's first, third and fourth goals of a 5-0 victory as she also got credit for the game winner.
Campana earns weekly honors for the first time in her career, while Bombacino, who was a BIG EAST All-Freshman Team selection in 2018, was selected as the league's rookie of the week on Oct. 1 of last season.
The weekly honors are the first for MU since Maddy Henry and Kylie Sprecher were honored on Sept. 2 following Sprecher's double overtime winner against Michigan on Sept. 1.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, Oct. 20 when they welcome Villanova to Valley Fields for a 1 p.m. Central time kickoff.
