Men's Tennis Concludes Doubles At ITA Regional

Smrek/Heredia Gomez advance to Round of 16
The Marquette University men's tennis team continued play at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by Ohio State, with doubles competition on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles featured a trio of tandems in the main draw. MU's Luke Smrek and Luis Heredia Gomez, seeded 12th in the 64-team field, opened with an 8-4 decision over Valparaiso.Ā The duo then went on to earn an 8-3 win over DePaul to earn a spot in the third round, but was defeated by No. 5 seed Michigan in the Round of 16.
Senior Brett Meyers and sophomore Fran San Andres fell 8-5 in their opening match against a duo from UIC and senior Brandon Shanklin and freshman Stefan Dragovic were also defeated in their matchup with Valparaiso.
Smrek, Meyers and Heredia Gomez will open main draw singles action on Saturday morning.
