Bombacino recorded her second straight hat trick and Henry had nine saves against Villanova
NEW YORK – Marquette University sophomore Alyssa Bombacino is the BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while senior goalkeeper Maddy Henry was named to the women's soccer weekly honor roll, it was announced on Monday.
The pair helped the Golden Eagles to a 3-1 victory over Villanova on Sunday afternoon in Milwaukee for the program's 100th BIG EAST win. The victory pushed MU into a tie for fourth in the league standings with 10 points and stretched its unbeaten streak to four matches.
Bombacino posted her second hat trick in as many matches and now leads the Golden Eagles with seven goals and 15 points this season.
Henry made nine saves against the Wildcats, including a huge stop on a VU penalty kick from Kristin Barbour in the 63rd minute. That stop kept MU ahead 2-1 and Bombacino went on to score her third goal less than two minutes later.
The honor is the ninth weekly recognition of Henry's career and the second this season after goalkeeper of the week honors on Sept. 2. Bombacino was also listed on the honor roll last week following her hat trick in the 5-0 victory at Seton Hall.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, Oct. 24 when they welcome Xavier to Valley Fields for a 7 p.m. Central time kickoff. The match will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network and MU will honor its seniors with a special post-game ceremony.
