Allie Barber totaled 20 kills in just three sets
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.—The 11th-ranked Marquette women's volleyball team won its fourth straight game on Saturday evening as the Golden Eagles completed a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 42-40, 25-12) in South Orange.
Senior Allie Barber led the offensive charge for Marquette (19-3, 9-1) with 20 kills, just one kill shy of her career best record in three-set matches. Juniors Hope Werch and Sarah Rose once again tallied double-doubles as Werch connected for 12 kills with 15 digs, while Rose dished out 17 assists and collected 10 digs.
Junior Martha Konovodoff totaled a match-high 17 digs, while the Golden Eagles' other setter, sophomore Claire Mosher handed out 25 assists.
The second set was a wild one that saw a point-for-point battle with eight lead changes and the score tied 22 times. Marquette reached the first set point first, 25-24, but Seton Hall (7-17, 2-8) matched, which started the back-and-forth finish to the frame before MU was able to close it out on a kill from Werch and error from the Pirates.
"I give Seton Hall a lot of credit for that second set battle," head coach Ryan Theis said. "They played really hard and capitalized on a few of our mistakes. I thought Claire Mosher and Allie (Barber) stepped up in their roles when we ran out of subs. Allie went into ultra-aggressive mode and Claire added a kill."
The Pirates were led by Haylee Gasser with 19 kills and nine digs as Raygan Murray collected 13 digs.
The Golden Eagles combined to hit a .304 mark as a team, while holding Seton Hall to a .151 clip, which was the second straight match that they held an opponent to under .200 hitting.
Marquette returns home on Friday, Nov. 1 to host Xavier at 7 p.m. CT from the Al McGuire Center.
