Forward has earned two state titles at Baltimore Polytechnic
The Marquette University men's basketball team has added prep standout Justin Lewis (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) to the roster for the 2020-21 campaign, head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Wednesday morning.
Â
Lewis, a 6-8, 225-pounder, will arrive on campus next summer and have four seasons of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.
Â
"We are extremely excited to have Justin and his family join our program," Wojciechowski said. "Justin hails from my hometown and has a tremendous reputation, as both a player and a person.
Â
"We believe he has an incredibly high ceiling as a basketball player," Wojciechowski added. "His strength, versatility and competitiveness are all characteristics that will help our program reach the next level."
Â
A consensus nationally ranked prep prospect, Lewis rated 57th in the country by ESPN.com, 76th by 247Sports.com and 98th by Rivals.com. He is also rated as high as 12th at his position in the class of 2020. An experienced player with USA Basketball, Lewis most recently took part in the 2019 Men's Junior National Team minicamp in October.
Â
A two-year letterwinner at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Lewis has helped the program to two-straight state titles (three overall) under head coach Sam Brand. The Engineers became the first public school program in state history to claim three consecutive Class 3A championships in 2019.
Â
A first team all-city pick as a junior, Lewis averaged 17.3 points and 9.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.2 blocks per game and finished with 16 double-doubles. He earned all-metro first team accolades for the second-straight season and was named ALL-USA Maryland Basketball Second Team by USA Today.
Â
In 2017-18, he claimed second team all-metro honors and was also tabbed second team all-state. The Engineers also earned a city championship en route to the state title.
Â
In just two seasons at the school, he has collected 884 points, 421 rebounds (including 20-rebound game in regional championship) and 343 assists.
Â
He attended Calvert Hall High School as a freshman in 2016-17 and has competed on the summer league circuit with Team Melo, also coached by Sam Brand.
