MILWAUKEE - The 28th annual Blue & Gold Fund Auction took place Friday, Dec. 6 in the Alumni Memorial Union with a crowd of over 250 Marquette alumni, friends, leaders and supporters. An impressive total of over $540,000 was generously donated to support student-athletes, bringing the six-year total of this event to nearly $3.6 million. Prior to 2014, the event had raised just over $2 million throughout 20 years.
The night was highlighted by emcee Sophia Minnaert as well as co-hosts Patrick Reed and senior men's tennis player Brandon Shanklin. It truly was a special evening with remarks also given by President Lovell and Deputy Athletics Director Mike Broeker along with an inspiring reflection from women's lacrosse junior Brynn Sunderland. The evening's program highlighted the Marquette Jesuit value of cura personalis by showcasing a number of inspiring initiatives led by student-athletes out of competition to address, discuss and break the stigma around mental health in athletics.
Items like the 2003 NCAA Final Four banner, Opening Weekend Milwaukee Brewers suite package, and a trip with the Marquette Men's Basketball program to face UCLA in 2020 provided great excitement for the live auction. The evening was capped by the climactic Fund-A-Need effort, highlighting generosity throughout the room with paddles raised from the $25,000 to $100 levels.
"On behalf of Marquette University Athletics and our student-athletes, thank you to everyone who has supported this event in numerous ways. Your investment in our programs allows for student-athletes to live out their dreams on and off the field of play. Donors to the Blue & Gold Fund continue to play a critical role in allowing the best experiences possible for Marquette student-athletes; in their sport, in their academic field, and in our community. Thank you." -Bill Scholl, Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

The spirit of philanthropy was evident and far-reaching at this year's auction, and is part of a legacy that will leave a lasting impact on Marquette student-athletes for years to come.
If you were unable to attend the auction and would still like to join in the annual Blue & Gold Fund Holiday Assist initiative for the month of December, you can do so here.
