Barber is MU’s first Senior CLASS award honoree
OVERLAND Park, Kansas- Marquette University senior Allie Barber has been chosen as a first-team Senior CLASS Award All-American for Division I volleyball, it was announced on Wednesday.
The 2019 Senior CLASS Award is chosen by a nationwide vote of Division I volleyball coaches, fans and national volleyball media and is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete. The 2019 award was given to Kathryn Plummer of Stanford.
Barber is the first in MU program history to be selected to the Senior CLASS first team. The award recognizes notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.
Off the court, Barber was named as the CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year for volleyball with a 3.98 grade point average in biomedical sciences, which is the second Academic All-American honor of her career.
Barber is the first player in MU program history to be named a three-time All-American as she took honorable mention accolades in 2017, was chosen to the second team last season and is an honorable mention selection for the 2019 campaign.
The Cedarburg, Wisconsin native finished her career as Marquette's all-time kills leader with 1,871 career kills, including 570 in 2019, which ranks fifth in the NCAA. Barber tallied 4.67 kills per set this season, ranking 16th in the country to lead the BIG EAST. She was a unanimous selection for BIG EAST Player of the Year, becoming just the fourth player in 30 years to repeat the honor that she also won in 2017. Barber also earned unanimous All-BIG EAST accolades and was one of just four players in the country to average 4.67 kills per set, while hitting at above a .305 hitting percentage.
