King Nets a Career-High 18 Points as #muwbb Defeats Milwaukee, 78-56

MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University women's basketball team defeated Milwaukee, 78-56, on Sunday afternoon at the Klotsche Center. Jordan King scored a career-high 18 points as MU took its 19th victory in its last 20 games against the Panthers.
Junior guard Selena Lott reached double figures for the seventh time in eight tries this year, scoring 14 points and distributing a game-high five assists. Isabelle Spingola chipped in 11 points while Altia Anderson scored eight points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
Coach Duffy's Golden Eagles proved to be opportunistic in the crosstown battle with UWM, forcing a season-high 23 turnovers and scoring 20 points off those miscues. They also held the Panthers to just 39.6 percent shooting, marking the seventh time in nine games MU has held its opponent under 40 percent from the field.
The Golden Eagles began the game on a 9-0 run after threes by Jordan King and Isabelle Spingola and a 3-point play by Selena Lott. MU hit five of its six 3-point tries in the first quarter to take a commanding nine-point lead after one.
Defense was the story of the half as MU controlled the glass, 15-12, and forced 14 UWM turnovers. The Panthers were held to 31.8 percent shooting from the field through 20 minutes, while the Golden Eagles hit 14 of their 27 field goal attempts (51.9 percent) and five of eight (62.5 percent) from behind the arc.
MU led by as many as 23 points in the second half, but a 24-13 run by the Panthers from the end of the third quarter into the fourth brought the game to within 12 points at 65-53. The Golden Eagles were able to keep UWM from getting any closer as they went on a 13-5 run in the final 3:42 of the game to win by 22.
For the game, MU had three players hit double figures and got scoring contributions from nine different players. Coach Duffy's team shot a season-best 50.8 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from 3-point range in the victory.
Freshman guard Tadri Heard paced the Panthers with team-highs in points (16) and assists (4) while Sydney Levy also reached double figures with 10 points.
