The senior becomes a two-time Academic All-America selection
AUSTIN, Texas--Marquette University senior outside hitter Allie Barber is the recipient of the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division I Women's Volleyball as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Barber, the unanimous choice for BIG EAST Player of the Year holds a 3.98 grade point average in biomedical sciences and is a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team honoree. She became just the fourth player in 30 years to repeat as BIG EAST Player of the Year and broke Marquette's all-time kills record this season.
The senior finished the season with 4.66 kills per set and helped guide Marquette to a ninth consecutive NCAA Championship berth, including back-to-back appearances in the round of 32.
The Cedarburg, Wisconsin native is Marquette's only Academic All-America of the Year in any sport and repeats in earning All-America honors after earning first team accolades a year ago. She is also a finalist for the 2019 Senior CLASS award in volleyball.
"Of all of Allie's awards and honors, this may be the most impressive," head coach Ryan Theis said. "I've never concerned myself or the team with individual awards because we play a team sport, but this one is special to me. Allie's teammates have certainly contributed along the way, but Allie is driven both on and off the court and has earned this award all to herself. She is amazing.
Allie has an unbelievable future ahead of her and I couldn't be more honored to have coached her and worked with her for the last four years."
