Gabriel, Garcia and McGuire earn BIG EAST honors

Three Golden Eagles were honored for their play against Cincinnati and Detroit Mercy
NEW YORK – Marquette University women's lacrosse players Grace Gabriel, Shea Garcia and Charlotte McGuire earned BIG EAST Conference weekly honors it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Gabriel, the league's preseason midfielder of the year, is the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week after posting 10 points, 25 draw controls, five ground balls and five caused turnovers in games against Cincinnati and Detroit Mercy. The Lancaster, New York native scored four times and notched 17 draws in Friday's loss at UC but followed it up with a season-high six point showing (four goals, two assists) in MU's win over UDM. She currently leads the conference with 3.25 goals per game and 9.0 draw controls.
The honor marks the sixth midfielder of the week award for Gabriel, while Garcia and McGuire are first-time weekly honorees.
Garcia is the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after posting 10 points on seven goals and three assists in two games. She scored four times and picked up four ground balls in Friday's loss at UC and notched a career-best six points on three goals and three assists in the win over Detroit.
McGuire earned weekly honor roll mention after posting 10 points with nine goals and an assist.
The Golden Eagles (2-2) return to action on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Kennesaw State in a noon Central time contest.
