Konopka's 60-meter hurdle time at Notre Dame is the fastest BIG EAST time since realignment
NEW YORK – Marquette University sophomore Joe Keys and freshman Ben Konopka swept the BIG EAST Conference men's track and field weekly honors, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Konopka won the men's track honor after improving upon his personal best in the 60-meter hurdles at the Meyo Invitational on Friday, Feb. 1 with a time of 8.20 seconds. That mark is the fastest time by a BIG EAST student-athlete since the league realigned prior to the 2013-14 academic year.
Keys was honored as the men's field athlete of the week after breaking the Marquette program record in the heptathlon on Friday and Saturday at the University of Chicago's Windy City Rumble. Keys broke or tied four personal bests on his way to the event victory. His score of 5,241 leads the BIG EAST and ranks 22nd nationally.
A Marquette student-athlete has captured the league's track athlete of the week following all four meets in which the Golden Eagles have competed this indoor season. All-American Daniel Armstrong has earned the honor twice, while Terrance Howard was honored on Jan. 22.
