Track and field finishes day one at GVSU Big Meet

The Golden Eagles resume action at the Kelly Family Sports Center Saturday at 8 a.m. CT
ALLENDALE, Michigan ā The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams concluded action at the GVSU Big Meet Friday on Feb. 9 with the Big Meet Saturday set to commence at 8 a.m. Central time tomorrow at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
Friday's track events began with the 5,000-meter run on the 300-meter track with nine of 10 MU student-athletes recording personal bests in the men's race, led by Henry Mierzwa in 14:56.06. He placed 36th overall, while Paolo Tiongson notched a 50-second personal best of 14:14.59.
Kendall Pfrimmer led four MU women in the 5k in a time of 18:18.43, which is a new personal best.
Breanne Marchan won her preliminary heat with a time of 7.72 seconds in the women's 60-meter dash, while sophomore Daniel Bendel placed third in his men's 60 heat. His time of 7.05 seconds is a new personal best and the No. 7 mark in MU history.
Bendel went on to also record a new personal best in the 200 with a mark of 22.27 seconds, though he placed behind teammate AJ Catarozoli in the event. Catarozoli, a freshman, ran a time of 22.26 seconds, which now puts him 10th in MU history ā a distinction that Bendel held up until this race.
Brad Eagan placed seventh in the men's mile in a time of 4:08.34 to lead a contingent of five MU men in the event. On the women's side, Mary Hanson placed 12th in 4:55.65.
Sophomore Samuel Johnson notched the lone event victory of the day for the Golden Eagles in the men's triple jump (14.64 meters).
Events resume Saturday at the Kelly Family Sports Center at 8 a.m. Central time with the field events, while action on the track starts up at 9 a.m. CT with the preliminary heats of the women's 60-meter hurdles.
