The senior thrower has the BIG EAST's top marks in the hammer throw and discus this season

NEW YORK – Marquette University senior thrower Brendan McKinney is the BIG EAST Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance on Saturday at the Illini Twilight, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

McKinney won the men's hammer throw with a toss of 55.01 meters (180 feet, 6 inches), a distance that registers as the top mark in the league this outdoor campaign. The Arlington Heights, Illinois native also placed fifth (48.15 meters/158 feet) in the discus behind teammate Terrance Howard, who finished as the top attached athlete at second overall. McKinney's discus throw is his second-best mark this season, though he leads the league performance list with his toss from the Marquette Invitational on April 5.

In his third event at the University of Illinois Track, McKinney was 17th in the shot put.

The senior also earned field athlete of the week honors on Feb. 20 during the indoor season and was the conference champion in the men's weight throw at the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Golden Eagles resume action this week at the USF Collegiate in Tampa, Florida as well as three meets in Southern California. McKinney and the MU throwers will head to the USF Collegiate for action on Friday and Saturday.
