MU honors Anderson and Verdu in home finale
The Marquette University men's tennis team (12-7) saw its five-match winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-2 to St John's (13-5) at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The setback also ended a run of 19-straight wins at home dating back to the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
Prior to the match, the Golden Eagles honored seniors Greg Anderson and Alvaro Verdu, who were playing their respective final matches at home.
Marquette opened the match by claiming the valuable doubles point, but then watched the Red Storm claim control of momentum early in singles play. Verdu was able to earn a straight-set win at No. 1, but he was the only player to claim a victory. MU would win first sets at two other positions, but was unable to hang on for the team points.
