Marquette enters postseason with highest ever seed
MILWAUKEE – The No. 2 seed Marquette University hosts the BIG EAST Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship, presented by Jeep, for the first time on May 2 and 4 at Valley Fields. The Golden Eagles begin tournament action in the league semifinals against third-seeded Georgetown on Thursday, May 2 at roughly 6 p.m. Central time.

Semifinal action begins on Thursday, May 2 at 3 p.m. CT when No. 1 Denver matches up against No. 4 Villanova, followed by a roughly 6 p.m. CT first draw between the No. 2 Golden Eagles and the No. 3 Hoyas. The final is slated for 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 4 and will air live on FS2.

MARQUETTE (9-8, 3-2 BIG EAST): The Golden Eagles closed out regular season action against the then-No. 24 Hoyas on April 27 to earn the program's first win over a ranked opponent and first victory against Georgetown, 14-12.
Senior midfielder Grace Gabriel led Marquette on its Senior Day with five goals, each of which came in the decisive second half. Graduate student Charlotte McGuire rattled off four of her own while freshman Shea Garcia and junior Megan Menzuber added in two scores apiece. Marquette was trailing until the 7:18 mark of the second half, when Gabriel notched back-to-back goals to take and secure the Golden Eagles' lead.
Junior goalkeeper Jules Horning had a season-high 18 saves, eight more than her previous best and just one shy of her career-high that she set last season at Georgetown.
Gabriel leads the Golden Eagles through the 17-game regular season with 62 points, including 56 goals. She's collected over 110 draw controls and ranks second on the team in caused turnovers with 23.
GEORGETOWN (9-8, 3-2 BIG EAST): Georgetown is making its 13th-consecutive appearance in the postseason tournament, making the Hoyas the only team to compete in every BIG EAST Tournament. The team was led by Michaela Bruno's four goals in the loss at Marquette on Saturday, its first setback in three conference contests.
SERIES HISTORY: Marquette defeated Georgetown for the first time in seven meetings (1-6) on Saturday to mark its first win over a ranked opponent (1-32).
BACK-TO-BACK IN BIG EAST
The Golden Eagles clinched their second BIG EAST Tournament appearance in as many years and earned its highest-ever rank as the No. 2 seed.
GABRIEL RANKS AND RECORDS
Marquette senior midfielder Grace Gabriel was tabbed the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Last season, Gabriel became Marquette's all-time leader in goals (172), shots (428) and draw controls (324). This season, the Lancaster, New York native became the program's all-time leader in points (196), while resetting the single-season record for draw controls in a season (111).
SOCCODATO HITS 100 POINTS
Senior attack Cate Soccodato tallied six assists for six points on Friday, Feb. 15 against Cincinnati to propel her past the 100 career point mark. She's the eighth all-time Marquette women's lacrosse player to reach the feat. Current roster members Grace Gabriel and Charlotte McGuire also rank belong to the 100-point club. Soccodato finished the regular season in 2019 with 140 career points.
MCGUIRE NOTCHES 100 POINTS, 100 GOALS
Graduate student Charlotte McGuire became the ninth player in program history to reach 100 career points in Marquette's contest at High Point on March 16, 2018. She also notched her 100th career goal against No. 24 Georgetown on April 27, 2019.
HORNING WINNINGEST GOALIE
Junior goalkeeper Jules Horning became the program's winningest goalie on Saturday, April 13 at Old Dominion. Her six saves secured her 19th overall victory in the net for the Golden Eagles. Horning was named the BIG EAST Defender of the Week during the final stretch of league action after collecting 18 saves against No. 24 Georgetown, one shy of her career high.
CONTROLLING THE CIRCLE
Grace Gabriel set a single-game program record against Cincinnati with 17 draw controls, outdoing the entire Bearcats team total (16). She holds the Marquette record for draw controls in a single-season (111) and career (324).
