Mirkes and Moravec are BIG EAST Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week

The pair will lead MU into the BIG EAST Championships on May 10-11 in New York
NEW YORK – Marquette University sophomores Emma Moravec and Lindsey Mirkes were named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon for their performances at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic on Friday in Madison.
Mirkes won the women's high jump with a lifetime best leap of 1.76 meters (5 feet, 9.25 inches), a mark that is 22nd this season in the NCAA West Region and places her second all-time in Marquette history. The De Pere, Wisconsin native currently sits second among all competitors in the BIG EAST in the event.
Moravec earned recognition for her time of 2:09.08 in the women's 800-meter run at Wisconsin in a third-place finish. The Downers Grove, Wisconsin native is 72nd in the NCAA West Region and her time puts her No. 3 at Marquette all-time.
The accolades are the first BIG EAST weekly honors of their Marquette careers.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, May 10 in the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Icahn Stadium in New York. Events begin at 9 a.m. Central time and run through the men's 10,000 meters at 4:45 p.m. CT before resuming Saturday at 8 a.m. CT with the decathlon.
