1. What is your proudest moment as a Marquette lacrosse player?
John Wagner: The proudest moment at Marquette was winning the BIG EAST in 2016 as a freshman. Not just the comeback after halftime, but seeing those seniors have everything come together from nothing to something.
Â
2. What is your most memorable experience with the team?
Wagner: My most memorable experience with the team was our trip to Italy in the summer after freshman year. That was something I'll never forget.
Â
3. What's the best advice a teammate has given you?
Wagner: I always remember Conor Gately telling me to smile and have fun - that's what it's all about and that is when you're at the best.
4. What's the best advice you could offer future Marquette lacrosse players?
Wagner:Â Enjoy the time while it lasts. Four years goes by quicker then you could ever imagine. Take it all in and want more time together. You don't realize how fast time flies until you're on the home stretch.
5. What has motivated you?
Wagner: My family and my teammates. No matter the time of day, the situation, or the outcome, they're always there when you need them.
Â
6. Most memorable game?
Wagner: My most memorable game was against Providence in 2018. The comeback in the last couple of minutes and winning in overtime was something I will never forget.
Â
7. Do you feel a rivalry developing with any opponents you have played?
Wagner: I think there is always a rivalry among BIG EAST teams, specifically with Georgetown and Providence. Outside of conference play, without a doubt, Notre Dame is our largest rival.
Â
8. How do you think you've changed as a player or person over your career at Marquette?
Wagner: Over the course of my career, I've changed drastically as a player and person. Most noticeable to me is simply being able to take in the moments that matter most. Understanding that moments like these are the ones you won't forget. Being able to embrace and cherish them is the outlook you want to have on life.
9. What have you learned that you will take with you as you move on from MU?
Wagner: Demand excellence in everything you do. Don't settle for mediocrity, there's a lot of mediocre people out there. When you have high standards with ambitious goals, good things will come.
Â
10. What are your post-graduation plans?
Wagner: Travel the world before I start working at Scotiabank in Toronto.
