MU hosts Notre Dame in addition to BIG EAST foes Villanova, Georgetown and St. John’s
MILWAUKEE – First-year head coach Andrew Stimmel has announced the 2020 schedule for the Marquette University men's lacrosse team, featuring seven home matches at Valley Fields.
"This year's out of conference schedule provides us the opportunity to build towards a challenging BIG EAST Conference slate in March and April," Stimmel said. "The opportunity to compete against Ohio State and Johns Hopkins in the pre-season, as well as multiple NCAA tournament teams in our nonconference schedule, will provide a learning experience our team can build upon. With the departure of some key pieces from a year ago, it will be an exciting time as we look to establish roles and set the tone for what lies ahead."
The spring semester kicks off with two away scrimmages at Ohio State and Johns Hopkins on Jan. 18 and Jan. 25, respectively. MU then returns to Ohio to begin regular season play with a matchup against Cleveland State on Feb. 1 in the second regular season meeting between the two programs.
Following the season lid-lifter, the Golden Eagles face Bellarmine at Valley Fields on Feb. 8 in their home opener and welcome Jacksonville on Saturday, Feb. 15. MU defeated both BU and JU to open the 2018 season.
Marquette closes out the month of February on the road at Detroit Mercy on Feb. 22 and at Drexel University in Philadelphia on Feb. 29. The meeting against Drexel is the first in program history.
Three of the four games in March are home contests beginning with a March 7 matchup against Robert Morris. The Golden Eagles will then head to Michigan on March 14 during the University's spring break before returning home to start BIG EAST Conference action.
Marquette hosts 2019 NCAA tournament participants Georgetown and Villanova, on March 21 and March 28, respectively, at Valley Fields and then heads to the East Coast to take on St. John's on Saturday, April 4.
The Golden Eagles will then welcome Notre Dame for their annual mid-week game against the Fighting Irish on either Tuesday, April 7 or Wednesday, April 8 before hosting Providence for Senior Day on Saturday, April 11.
Marquette closes out the regular season with road matchups at Duke on Saturday, April 18 and Denver on Friday, April 24.
For the first time since 2017, the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Championship is slated for Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, Rhode Island. The four-team, single-elimination tournament will take place from April 30-May 2. The Golden Eagles became the tournament's first No. 4 seed to win the event in 2017 at Chapey Field by toppling then-No. 2 Denver and the host Friars to win the league's NCAA tournament automatic berth.
Marquette faces High Point in their lone fall exhibition on Oct. 26 in North Carolina.
