1/20/2020 11:06:00 AM | Men's Basketball
Fans encouraged to wear Gold, MU partners with American Cancer Society
Fans are encouraged to join the team in wearing GOLD to the game. Gold is the color of childhood cancer and it symbolizes how precious children are and the resiliency of childhood cancer heroes. Â
Â
Marquette has partnered with the American Cancer Society to enhance the annual cancer awareness game. With support from American Cancer Society fans will receive "I fight for…" signs upon entry into the arena. Sharpies will be provided to customize signs at various stations around the concourse. Fans are encouraged to hold their sign up for the "miracle minute" in the under four-minute timeout in the first half.
The Marquette University men's basketball team (13-5, 3-3 BIG EAST) returns home Tuesday night to face St. John's (12-7, 1-5 BIG EAST) at 8 p.m. CT in Fiserv Forum.  FS1 will feature the national television broadcast, with Kevin Kugler (play-by-play) and Tim Miles (analyst) calling the action.  Following Tuesday night's action, the Golden Eagles open a two-game road swing at Butler on Jan. 24.
NABC Suits & Sneakers Week ReturnsÂ
  Â
Each season, college and high school basketball coaches across the nation wear sneakers with their suits during dedicated games to raise awareness and funds, while encouraging people to educate themselves about cancer prevention. The 2020 Suits and Sneakers Week is set for January 20th-26th.
  Â
The vision for the 2019-20 season is to make a nationwide impact on the fight against childhood cancer. This season, Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers games will support childhood cancer research, services, and awareness, as well as promote cancer prevention efforts targeting children.
  Â
Tuesday night the Golden Eagles are also Lacing Up 4 Pediatric Cancer to support the Go4theGoal Foundation to help kids battling cancer.
  Â
Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer began in the fall of 2011. Â Since then, professional, college and youth teams have participated in raising funds and awareness for the #1 disease killer of children. Â To date, over a half million athletes have supported our cause. Â $4 from every $5 pair of laces and 100% of all donations directly benefit kids and families in the state where the funds are raised.Â
Howard, McEwen Lead Way At GeorgetownÂ
  Â
Senior guard Markus Howard scored 42 points in the win over Georgetown Saturday afternoon, but just as important were four of junior guard Koby McEwen's points in the closing moments.
  Â
After missing a pair of free throws earlier, McEwen calmly knocked down 4-of-4 chances in the game's final 10 seconds to help secure the 84-80 road victory. Â The Toronto, Ontario, native also dished out a career-best nine assists, surpassing his previous best single-game total of seven helpers, which he recorded earlier this season and while at Utah State.
  Â
Howard's performance was the seventh of his career with 40-or-more points and he is now averaging an unbelievable 31.7 points per game in BIG EAST plays through the first third of the league slate.
