Marquette Closes Three-Game Road Trip at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I.— The Marquette women's basketball team will wrap up its three-game road trip at Providence College on Sunday, Jan 4 at 12 p.m. CT.
The game will air on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Mike Mancuso and Pam Roecker handling the call from Providence.
The Golden Eagles fell in their second BIG EAST contest of the season at Creighton, falling 72-62 to a tough Bluejay team. For Marquette, the squad had three players in double figures as Selena Lott, Lauren Van Kleunen, and Isabelle Spingola each racked up 12 points, respectively. Altia Anderson continued to dominate the boards with nine rebounds.
In league play, Van Kleunen leads Marquette (9-4, 0-2) with 15.5 points per game, which ranks seventh in the BIG EAST, while Lott contributes 15.0 points per game and is 10th in the league standings. Spingola checks in 22nd at 10.0 points per contest.
As a team the Golden Eagles rank first in the BIG EAST and 12th in the NCAA handing out 18.8 assists per game. Lott is the BIG EAST's individual leader, also ranking 10th in the country dishing out 5.8 assists. MU is also first in the conference in rebounding margin with a +8.5 per game.
UP NEXT: Marquette will return back to home to the Al McGuire Center to host St. John's on Friday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. CT.

PROVIDENCE (9-6, 0-3) Providence opened up BIG EAST play with losses at Villanova and Georgetown before falling at home to the No. 16/17 ranked Blue Demons of DePaul, 80-67, on Friday. The Friars are led by last year's BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Mary Baskerville who is averaging just over 13 points per game. She also leads the conference in blocks per game with 1.9. Sophomore Kaela Webb adds 11.3 points. As a team, Providence is holding opponents to just 58.1 points per game, the best in the BIG EAST.
THE SERIES
Marquette owns the all-time series with Providence, 16-5 and has won four straight contests over the Friars.

"I thought we did a great job in the fourth quarter to battle back when we were down, but ultimately that third quarter is what really cost us. We got too far behind and once you're down with Creighton, the way they control the pace, we just didn't have enough down the stretch.
