All-state honoree helped program to state semifinals in 2019-20
The Marquette University men's basketball team has signed nationally ranked prep guard Kameron Jones (Cordova, TN/Evangelical Christian School), head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Wednesday morning.

Jones, a 6-4, 180-pounder, will arrive on campus next summer and have four seasons of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.

"I believe Kam is a hidden gem," Wojciechowski said. "We were fortunate to have him take part in our team camp two summers ago and have loved watching his growth and development since then. He is a creative scorer and willing passer and can play multiple positions and comes from a tremendous family."

In 2019-20, Jones helped lead Evangelical Christian School to the Division 2-A semifinals after averaging 20.4 points per game. The Eagles collected an overall record of 21-10 and made their first appearance in the state semifinals in eight years. He was named the program's most valuable player and shared the district's top player award. In consideration for the state's Mr. Basketball Award, Jones was named all-state by multiple outlets.

The three-year letterwinner was named all-district as a sophomore after averaging 14.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest. He was also named the team's most valuable player in 2018-19. As a freshman, he chipped in 12.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game and claimed a spot on the all-district squad.

Jones competed on the AAU circuit for Team Thad and was honored among the program's top players in 2019.
"Kam's a great kid from a great family and really has yet to realize his full potential," Team Thad coach Norton Hurd said. "He's difficult to prepare for defensively because of his skill set, is crafty with the dribble and a threat offensively once he crosses halfcourt."
Jones has netted 1,488 points in just three seasons and finished his junior year with a 3.5 grade-point-average.

"I chose Marquette because it has a great program and coaching staff," Jones said. "I like how engaged and how much love the fans display and I know that going to MU will put me in the best position for what I want to do.

"I am a point guard who can get my teammates involved and score the ball," Jones added. "I work as hard as I can day in and day out. I will do whatever it takes to win. I am a selfless player who loves seeing my teammates accomplish their goals and having fun."
