The Golden Eagles add two of the nation’s top 60 class of 2021 recruits
MILWAUKEE – Top-ranked boys golfers Max Lyons (Peoria, Arizona/Sandra Day O'Connor H.S) and P.A. Kilburn (Monroe, Georgia/Monroe Area H.S.) signed National Letters of Intent to join the Marquette University men's golf program for the 2021-22 campaign.
"The foundation of Marquette Golf is highlighted by our culture and it was very clear throughout the recruiting process, that Max and P.A. personify championship traits that will strengthen our team," MU head coach Steve Bailey said. "Their success, in life, school and golf, has been a byproduct of their strong family values and a passion to improve."
The pair is among the top-60 boys golfers in the high school class of 2021 according to Golfweek/Sagarin, and Lyons is one of the highest-ranked recruits in program history, sitting at No. 14 among all senior boys golfers.
"In only his fourth year of playing competitively, the ascension of Max's game is arguably the most remarkable in all of junior golf," Bailey said. "When you look at Max's academic and athletic resume, it's obvious he's an elite student-athlete. Above and beyond both school and golf, he is an amazing young man, who will make a significant impact on our campus and well beyond."
Lyons was runner-up at the Arizona Division I State Championship this fall after shooting an 8-under 132 and earned JGAA Arizona Boys Player of the Year. He leads the country with five victories in nationally ranked tournaments this calendar year and has compiled a scoring average of 65.72 per round in those events.
The Peoria, Arizona native was also honored as a Scholastic All-American by the AJGA in 2020 and ranks first in his high school class of nearly 700 students.
The 6-foot-6 Kilburn is the No. 59-ranked boys golfer in the class of 2021 and fifth among boys golfers in the state of Georgia. He placed in the top 10 at the GHSA Class AAA State Championships as both a freshman and sophomore, while his junior season was canceled this spring. The four-time team captain helped his squad to its first appearance in the state tournament as a sophomore in 2019 and placed seventh individually at the event.
"P.A. is a tremendous multi-sport athlete who will be a difference maker as a player and a teammate," Bailey said. "He brings a wealth of experience and top finishes on the national level along with a passion to improve."

- "I chose Marquette because first and foremost, it is a great academic institution. On top of that, I have really enjoyed getting to know Coach Bailey. He has such a great reputation as a coach and a leader, and I can't wait to be a part of the championship program that he has built. I love the campus, and I think Milwaukee is just a great place to spend the next four years of my life. The on-campus indoor golf facility is like nothing else in the country, and the golf courses in the area where we get to practice and play like Erin Hills, Whistling Straits, Milwaukee Country Club and the University Club are top notch and will give me a chance to take my game to a new level."
