Marquette Places Second At BIG EAST Championships

Candinas finishes third, highest result for MU freshman since 2018.
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. โ The Marquette University men's golf team finished second at the 2026 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championships presented by JEEP, carding a 17-under par 847 at Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club. It was the program's 10th top two result since 2014.
The 17-under 847 matched the program's second-lowest score at a BIG EAST Championship (2025), one shy of the record of 18-under 846 (2006).
The Golden Eagles carried a two-stroke lead into the final round but saw Xavier erase a three-shot hole to win the tournament by four strokes after shooting 13-under to finish at 21-under. MU had rounds 6-under, 5-under and 6-under.
With a bogey-free 4-under 68 during Monday's final round, Mischa Candinas finished third overall at 7-under par. It was the highest finish for a Marquette freshman since 2018 when Hunter Eichhorn claimed medalist honors. The 7-under was also the lowest score at the championships by a Golden Eagle since Eichhorn shot 7-under for his second title in 2021.
With two birdies on the day, Johan Widal was under pair for the third straight round with a 1-under 71. The senior finished tied for ninth to earn his second Top 10 result at the conference championship.
Ryan Banas also finished at 1-under in the final round, moving up five spots to finish tied for 25th.
Despite carding a 2-over 74 on Monday, Vincent Cervantes tied for 15th at 2-under. It was his second Top 15 finish at the championships.
