Marquette cross-country and track and field athletes have scattered across the country since graduating college. Our Alumni Spotlight feature will allow us to provide personal and professional updates on the student-athletes who represented the University on the court and continue to be ambassadors today.
Michaela Courtney had a storied career for the Golden Eagles. She was a 2006 All-American for track in the outdoor 1,500m, while also qualifying with the cross country team for the NCAA Championships. She was inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame in 2016.
Michaela Courtney | 2004-07 | Dodgeville, Wisconsin
Location: Westfield, New Jersey
Employer/Profession: Currently I stay home with my two sons, Kristopher who is three and Vincent who is one. Prior to becoming a mom I worked for ASICS as a sales rep in Washington, DC and in Orange County, CA at their corporate headquarters.
What I remember best about Marquette:
The people. Marquette is such a special place, and the first time in my life I had ever been a part of a community that felt like home almost instantly. One of my first and favorite memories is when my cross county team qualified for NCAA's my freshman year. We were on the bubble and had to wait two days before we found out if we had made it or not. I remember my teammates and I all crowding into my coach's office waiting for the results to post. We were so nervous and giddy. When we finally found out we qualified it was very surreal and a moment I will never forget. These women are some of my best friends to this day.
Fun Fact:
My younger sister, Mary Hanson also ran Track and Field and Cross Country for Marquette. She graduated this past Spring.
