Junior claimed pair of singles wins
Junior Luis Heredia Gomez of the Marquette University men's tennis team has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The honor is the first of the season for a Marquette player.
Heredia Gomez lifted Marquette to wins over Wisconsin and Valparaiso, closing out the week with two singles wins at No. 2 singles. The junior clinched the matched in a win at Wisconsin to mark the program's third victory over the Badgers in school history.
Heredia Gomez opened the week with a 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) win over Gabriel Huber of Wisconsin before taking down Brian Pecyna of Valparaiso 6-7, 6-3, 1-0.
The Madrid, Spain, native also teamed up with senior Luke Smrek at No. 1 doubles, but neither match concluded prior to Marquette claiming the doubles point.
