Golf tied for seventh at Puerto Rico Classic

Leach, Murlick and Lafferty all shot even par in Monday's second round

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The Marquette University men's golf team moved up one spot on the leaderboard of the Puerto Rico Classic into a tie for seventh on Monday in the second round at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course.
Three golfers, senior Matt Murlick, sophomore Tyler Leach and freshman Aidan Lafferty each recorded even-par 72s, while freshman Bhoom Sima-Aree was just one stroke back with a 1-over 73.
The Golden Eagles sit tied for seventh with College of Charleston at 2-over par 578 (289-289) through 36 holes, and five strokes separate the seven teams from MU to Tennessee (No. 27 in Golfstat) in 13th place. Georgia Tech (No. 3 in Golfstat) shot a daily-best 20-under 268 on Monday to wrest the tournament lead from Oklahoma (No. 2 in Golfstat) at a total of 26-strokes-under par.
The MU freshmen, Lafferty and Sima-Aree, each posted a team-best four birdies on Monday, while Leach, Murlick and junior Hunter Eichhorn recorded three apiece. Eichhorn got off to a rough start with three bogeys and a triple bogey on his first five holes before closing out his round with six straight pars. His 77 strokes on Monday is his highest total since posting 76 in the final round of the Windon Memorial Classic on Sept. 17 at Conway Farms.
The Golden Eagles resume final round action at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 5:30 a.m. Central time. Following Tuesday's 18 holes, Marquette is off from competition until March 20-22 at the Linger Longer Invitational in Eatonton, Georgia at The Golf Course at Great Waters.
