
Golf ties for 10th at Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Freshman Aidan Lafferty and junior Hunter Eichhorn each carded final rounds of 2-under 70 and the Marquette University men's golf team tied for 10th in the Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course.
Lafferty finished in a tie for 13th overall at 4-strokes-under par for the tournament (70-72-70--212) to lead the Golden Eagles for the first time in his career. The Downers Grove, Illinois native continued the upward trajectory from the end of his fall season when the freshman went from out of the lineup to MU's second finisher at the Hoakalei Country Club Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 28-30. He and Eichhorn each recorded six birdies on Tuesday and Lafferty ended the tournament with a team-best 13 birdies.
Eichhorn birdied four of his first seven holes on Tuesday and finished in a tie for 45th at 4-over (73-77-70--220). Sophomore Tyler Leach was MU's second finisher in a tie for 32nd at even par for the tournament (72-72-72--216) after posting a 72 in every round.
Freshman Bhoom Sima-Aree (T54, 74-73-76--223) was MU's fourth finisher, while senior Matt Murlick (T61, 78-72-76--226) was fifth on the squad.
The Golden Eagles (T10 (+2), 289-289-288--866) shot even par on Tuesday in counting scores but were passed on the team leaderboard by Purdue and N.C. State. MU topped Tennessee (No. 27 in Golfstat) by 16 strokes, while Georgia Tech (No. 3 in Golfstat) and Oklahoma (No. 2 in Golfstat) finished 1-2 at 32-under and 30-under, respectively.
The Golden Eagles are off from competition until March 20-22 at the Linger Longer Invitational in Eatonton, Georgia at The Golf Course at Great Waters.
