Vinnie Voudrie highlights day with men's weight throw win
GENEVA, Ohio – Seven Marquette University student-athletes earned All-BIG EAST honors today while 12 cemented their spots in tomorrow's finals on the track.
After the first day of action, the women's team holds a 14-point lead over its competition while the men's team is in second behind Villanova (62 points) with 52 points.
"Overall I was happy with our day one performance," Marquette head coach Bert Rogers said. "We're in a really good position with both teams and have a chance to score a bunch more points tomorrow."
Marquette's only event champion today was sophomore Vinnie Voudrie, who took home the weight throw title with a best toss of 17.16 m/56-3.75 ft to score 10 points for his team.
Also on the men's side, Imari Hurte (long jump) placed second, hitting a PR, freshman record and the No. 2 mark in program history (7.37 m/24-2.25 ft). Cameron Jemison also took home all-conference honors in the pole vault with a third-place finish (4.75 m/15-7 ft).
For the women, they had no event champions today but had three runners up and a third-place finisher in the field events. Madison Marko also finished fourth in the pentathlon to garner five points for the Golden Eagles.
Lizzy Cagle's performance in the women's weight throw highlighted the day as she posted a PR of 17.39 m/57-11.25 ft, which is also No. 8 all-time at MU. Senior Julie Clayton capped off her indoor career at the conference championships with a runner-up finish in the pole vault (3.85 m/12-7.5 ft).
Action begins tomorrow morning at 9:20 a.m. Central time on the BIG EAST Digital Network with the women's 3000m followed by the women's shot put.

• 60m: Senior captain Breanne Marchan (7.79) took eighth to advance.
• 60m Hurdles: Juru Okwaramoi (8.85) set a PR and a freshman record to qualify for the final. This time is No. 3 in school history.
• 400m: Arianna Mansavage (56.37) took seventh to advance to tomorrow's finals.
Men's Track:
• Mile: Danny Peterson (4:17.78) placed fourth and advanced to the finals tomorrow.
• 60m: Samuel Johnson (6.87) took third and Julian Wright (7.01) placed seventh to clinch their spots in tomorrow's finals.
• 200m: Julian Wright placed second, setting a PR and clinching a spot in the finals tomorrow.
• 400m: Zachariah Murray (48.64) took fifth and Sam Sagan (49.72) took eighth to clinch their bids to the finals tomorrow.
• 800m: Derek Gross (1:52.57) took seventh in the prelims to clinch his finals berth.
ALL-TIME MARKS:
• Juru Okwaramoi (8.85) set a PR, freshman record and the No. 3 time in school history.
• Lizzy Cagle's mark in the women's weight throw was a PR of 17.39 m/57-11.25 ft, which is also #8AT.
• Julian Wright (21.82) posted an MU freshman record and #2 finish all-time in the 200m.
• Imari Hurte set a freshman record and the #2AT mark at MU in the long jump (7.37 m/24-2.25 ft).
• The women's DMR team of Lauren Neiheisel, Adelaide Havens, Kalina Gardiner and Mary Hanson took fourth with a time of 11:47.16, which ranks #7AT in program history.
