Sport Excellence Funds primary beneficiaries of donations
Marquette University's third installment of Give Marquette Day, which occurred on March 3, produced a record-setting donation total of over $155,000 to the athletics department.
The $155,737 total was an 11.6 percent increase from 2019 and the 749 total donors marked a 73.0 percent increase from the previous year. Of the total, $67,000 came through challenges that were matched, highlighted by an initiative by the M Club (former varsity letterwinners) and a pair of anonymous donations. The M Club matched up to $2,000 for each of the 11 sport excellence funds supporting the varsity programs.
"We are incredibly grateful for the generous support we received for our student-athletes on Give Marquette Day," Senior Director of Development and Associate Athletic Director Grant Leiendecker said. "The support we generated on this one day of giving will have a great impact on the opportunities and experiences we are able to provide our student-athletes going forward. Thank you to all of our donors that helped make Give Marquette Day a tremendous success!"
A total of 33 states were represented in the gifts and as a University, 3,941 generous donations were made for over $1 million.
