The attackman scored 61 goals and totaled 94 points at Bellarmine
MILWAUKEE – Graduate transfer Morgan Macko will join the Marquette University men's lacrosse team for the 2020-21 academic year, head coach Andrew Stimmel announced Friday.
"Morgan has shown an ability over his career to be a balanced and efficient playmaker, finishing third all-time in points at Bellarmine," Stimmel said. "As excited as we are about his potential on the field, we were more impressed to hear how his coaches and peers felt about him as a leader and teammate. He will fit in seamlessly with the exciting group we return to campus this fall."
Macko was a three-year starting attackman at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky where he compiled 61 goals and 33 assists for 94 points in 45 career games. In a shortened 2020 campaign that lasted eight contests, the Orchard Lake, Michigan native tied for second on the Knights with 19 points on the strength of 12 goals and seven assists. He recorded career highs of five goals and seven points against Detroit Mercy on Feb. 18.
In three career games against Marquette, Macko posted three goals and three assists. His lone goal against MU as a sophomore in 2018 tied the game late in the fourth quarter and paved the way for BU's 7-6 overtime victory in Pontiac, Michigan.
Academically, Macko was a three-time Southern Conference Honor Roll selection during his time at Bellarmine and graduated with a degree in finance in May.
Macko is the second transfer in from Bellarmine in the last three seasons, alongside goalie John Hulsman who joined the Golden Eagles for the 2019 campaign. He joins three other players from the state of Michigan on the MU roster in Patrick English (Grand Rapids), Noah Verlinde (Spring Lake) and fellow Detroit Catholic High School League alumnus Sean Richard (Northville/University of Detroit Jesuit).
Macko is from the same high school as former MU players K.C. Kennedy (2012-15) and Henry Nelson (2013-16).
