Four teams earn perfect APR scores of 1,000 in 2018-19
MILWAUKEE - Marquette University student-athletes are demonstrating success in the classroom and continue to perform at a high level, a trend that is documented in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, which was released by the NCAA recently.
Of Marquette's 16 NCAA Division I programs, 13 posted a four-year APR average that was at or above the national average for their respective sport.
"I'm extremely proud of the work our student-athletes have done in the classroom, particularly given the unusual and significant pressures they were under as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic," Marquette University Vice President & Director of Athletics Bill Scholl said. "It's a credit to the hard work and discipline of our student-athletes, coaching staffs and academic support staff that they've been able to be as successful off the field as they have on the field."
Last week, Marquette's men's tennis, men's and women's cross country and track & field teams were each recognized for scores in the top 10 percent of their respective sport. Men's tennis, men's and women's cross country and women's track & field posted perfect APR scores of 1,000. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams.
MU's men's tennis team earned a perfect APR for the fifth-straight year while the women's cross country team posted a perfect score for the fourth consecutive year. The men's cross country team tallied its second consecutive APR score of 1,000 while the women's track & field team earned its first ever perfect score.
The 2019-20 academic performance of Marquette student-athletes continues to show accomplishment in the classroom as well. In the spring 2020 semester, a stellar 229 Marquette student-athletes had a GPA of 3.0 or above and made the AD's Honor Roll. The Golden Eagles also had 43 individuals earn perfect 4.0 GPAs for spring 2020.
Every Division I sports team across the nation calculates its Academic Progress Rate each academic year, like a report card. Scholarship student-athletes each semester earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. At schools that don't offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked. Rates are an average of each school's performance for the past four years. National aggregates are based on all teams with usable data at the time of analysis.
