Golden Eagles to host seven games at Valley Fields
MILWAUKEE — Marquette women's lacrosse head coach Meredith Black announced the team's 2022 regular season schedule Thursday afternoon. This year's slate includes 17 regular season games and seven contests at home.
"We are very excited for the 2022 season," Black said. "It's great to be back to our normal non-conference and BIG EAST schedule format. As always, we have some great competition out of conference to help us prepare for our extremely competitive league season."
The Golden Eagles' 2022 schedule is highlighted by four 2021 NCAA tournament teams (Northwestern, UConn, Notre Dame and Denver), each of which finished the year in the IWLCA Top-25.
"Facing ranked opponents and teams that have reached the postseason in recent years is always a challenge, but it's something that will only make us better and help prepare us for the rest of our games," Black said.
This will mark the program's 10th season, after launching in 2013. The campaign will begin on Feb. 12, as Marquette hosts Cincinnati at Valley Fields.Â
MU will then prepare for a six-game road trip, beginning with Northwestern on Feb. 14. It will face Louisville on Feb. 16, followed by a meeting with Ohio State on Feb. 20.
The road trip continues with games against Detroit Mercy on Feb. 25, Canisius on March 4 and Niagara on March 6.
The Golden Eagles return home to host Kent State on March 12, followed by a west coast road trip to take on San Diego State on March 15 and Oregon on March 20, before closing out the month of March at home against Central Michigan on March 27.
BIG EAST play gets underway for Marquette on April 2 as it travels to Storrs, Connecticut, to take on UConn. MU will then play four of its final five games at Valley fields, with home contests against Villanova on April 9, Butler on April 16 and Notre Dame on April 18.
Senior Day will take place on April 24th as Marquette hosts Georgetown. The regular season will then conclude on the road as the team travels to Colorado to face reigning BIG EAST Champion Denver on April 30.
The BIG EAST Conference semifinals will be played on May 5, with the championship game slated for May 7. This year's tournament will be held in Denver, Colorado.
