MILWAUKEE — Marquette men's soccer head coach Louis Bennett announced the signing of Swedish goalkeeper Ludvig Målberg Thursday. Målberg is the seventh addition to MU's 2022 roster announced in recent weeks.
Målberg, a 6-foot-4 incoming freshman, has made his mark as one of the top young netminders in Sweden. He attended Tingsholmgymnasiet in Ulricehamn, Sweden, where he played for four years and was the school's 2021 athlete of the year and soccer player of the year. He also competed with IF Elfsborg, where he helped the team to a 2021 U21 Allsvenskan runner-up finish, along with 2020U19 Allsvenskan and 2019 Scandinavian Championship runner-up finishes as well.

Prior to Marquette: Attended Tingsholmgymnasiet in Ulricehamn, Sweden... Played four years and was the school's 2021 athlete of the year and soccer player of the year... Also competed with IF Elfsborg... Helped the team to a 2021 U21 Allsvenskan runner-up finish, along with 2020 U19 Allsvenskan and 2019 Scandinavian Championship runner-up finishes as well.
Why he chose MU: "I chose Marquette because it's an excellent school both academically and in soccer, and it suits me perfectly. I got a very positive impression of the school from talking to the coaches and my teammates."
Coach Bennett: "Ludvig checks a lot of the boxes that we were looking for, and he adds depth and quality in our goalkeeper position. We had concerns last season about conceding a lot of goals, and Ludvig adds some stability in that regard. He comes from a real place of experience, and he helps us create a competitive situation in the goal. The club that he comes from is one of the best clubs in his country, and he's played at an extremely high level. He has size, mobility and he's good on his feet. I think he's going to fit in well."
