
Golf claims pair of wins in BIG EAST Match Play on Monday

The Golden Eagles resume action Tuesday at 7 a.m. CT against Seton Hall
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's golf team began the 2020-21 season with wins over UConn and DePaul in BIG EAST Match Play action on Monday at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida.
The Golden Eagles took five of the six contests in Monday morning's matchup with UConn, including wins at spots Nos. 1-5. Hunter Eichhorn claimed a 4&2 win at the top spot over Jared Nelson, while redshirt sophomore Nicolás Evangelio claimed the first three holes over Rodrigo Sanchez and cruised to a 6&4 win at No. 3.
Marquette picked up a 4-1-1 win over DePaul in afternoon action and Evangelio once again made his mark at the No. 3 spot. The native of Logroño, Spain lost the first hole before claiming the advantage on the next six holes to build his edge for a 4&3 win.
Evangelio led the field with seven birdies through 36 holes, while Eichhorn tallied four and an eagle. Josh Robinson, playing at No. 5, recorded an eagle himself and paced all players with 25 pars.
The competition marks MU's first intercollegiate competition since Feb. 16-18, 2020 in Puerto Rico.
Marquette will square off against Seton Hall in Tuesday morning's final pairing at 7 a.m. Central time, while DePaul and UConn square off in the other match.
