CHICAGO, Ill. -Â The Marquette women's basketball team defeated No. 24/23 DePaul 85-71 on Wednesday afternoon at Wintrust Arena. With the win, MU clinches the No. 2 seed at next weekend's BIG EAST tournament.
Senior Selena Lott scored 20 of her game-high 25 points in the second half to lead the Golden Eagles (17-4, 14-3 BIG EAST) to their first win over a ranked opponent this season. MU answered with a layup from Van Kleunen with just five seconds left in the half to tie the game at 33. LVK led the Golden Eagles with 10 first half points.
In the third quarter is when MU began to take its game up a notch. The Golden Eagles shot a scorching 68.8 percent (11/16) from the field and 87.5 percent (7/8) from the foul line on their way to scoring 30 points in the quarter to take a seven point lead. Lott, who had just five points at halftime, came out of the gates in the second half aggressively, scoring 14 points in the third quarter alone.
Camryn Taylor scored 17 of her 20 points in the second half, including 12 in the fourth quarter to help MU put the closing touches on a massive road victory over its rival. Her 11 rebounds were also a game-high.
