WLAX Completes Perfect Weekend at Kent State

Leigh Steiner scored a career-high four goals
KENT, Ohio -Â The Marquette women's lacrosse team defeated Kent State 19-8 on Sunday afternoon to complete a 2-0 weekend.
Redshirt freshman Leigh Steiner scored a career-high four goals to lead the Golden Eagles (2-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) to their second victory in three days. Hannah Greving, Megan Menzuber and Caroline Steller also tallied hat tricks while Shea Garcia and Lydia Foust netted two goals apiece. Menzuber also led the team with three assists.
Steiner started off the scoring for MU with a free position goal 37 seconds into the game and Menzuber added to the lead with a goal just over a minute later. After a response from Kent State (0-2, 0-0 MAC), MU went on to score three in a row off free position goals, one from Lydia Foust and two from Caroline Steller. MU scored four of the next six goals and went into halftime with a commanding 9-3 lead.
The offense did not slow down in the second half as the Golden Eagles scored eight straight goals to take a 17-3 lead. Steiner, Menzuber and Garcia had two each in this run while Lydia Foust netted another free position goal.
Hannah Greving completed her hat trick to answer a 3-0 Golden Flashes run late in the second half to put MU back up 12 at 18-6. The final goal of the game came from true freshman Samantha Galvin, who scored her first career collegiate goal off a free position shot. She's the first true freshman to score this season for the Golden Eagles.
Senior goalie Sophia Leva (2-1)Â made her third start of the season and saved five shots. She let up just three goals during her 32 minutes in goal.
Midfielder Emily Cooper tied a season-high with eight draw controls to help MU win the draw battle 19-9. The Golden Eagles outshot KSU 34-19 and scored a season-best seven goals off free position shots (7/11).
Madison Rapier led Kent State with three goals while Megan Kozar had two. Leading scorer Abby Jones was held to one goal on five shots.
