Cowan on BIG EAST MLAX Honor Roll

The attackman posted career highs of four goals and six points against Villanova
NEW YORK – Marquette University redshirt freshman attackman Devon Cowan was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for men's lacrosse, it was announced on Tuesday.
Cowan paced the Golden Eagles in their 16-14 loss to Villanova on Saturday with new career highs of four goals and six points. He assisted on a pair of early second quarter goals as MU took its only lead of the game, 4-3, and tallied his first goal at the 7:24 mark of the frame. His second and fourth goals pulled the Golden Eagles within one late in the second and fourth quarter, respectively, before MU eventually tied the game at both junctures.
The Golden Eagles resume conference play on Saturday, March 6 against No. 4 Georgetown in Washington, D.C.

BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week
Jackson Morrill, Denver, Grad Student, A (Baltimore, Md.)
Denver grad student Jackson Morrill scored four goals and added three assists for then-No. 12 Denver's 23-10 victory over Providence. All seven of his points came in the first half, including three goals and two assists in Denver's nine goals second period. Morrill is on a 62-game point streak, the longest in Division I currently. Three of his assists contributed to Denver's 18, a new game record for the Pios. Denver's 23 goals were the most in a game for the Pios since 2003.
BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Matt Campbell, Villanova, Jr., M (Madison, N.J.)
Villanova junior midfielder Matt Campbell recorded a career-high seven points in the Wildcats 16-14 win over Marquette. Campbell scored five goals, a game-best. The Madison, N.J. native scored the second, fourth, seventh, ninth and 10th goals of the outing. His last two goals were both scored on a Villanova man-up advantage. His goal with 25 seconds left in the first half put VU up 9-8. Despite a 14-14 tie halfway through the fourth period, the Wildcats never relinquished the lead.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Owen McElroy, Georgetown, Sr., GK (Ridgewood, N.J.)
Georgetown senior keeper Owen McElroy led the fifth-ranked Hoyas to a 19-1 league win over St. John's on Saturday. McElroy made 10 saves in three quarters of action, allowing just one goal. When he left the field, the Hoyas were up 17-1 on the Red Storm. McElroy's save percentage for the outing was .909. He also picked up three ground balls and assisted Alex Mazzone's goal in the third quarter, making the score 12-1.
Freshman of the Week
T.J. Haley, Georgetown, Fr., A (Shady Side, Md.)
Georgetown rookie attacker T.J. Haley repeats as BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after tallying a career best four points with three assists and a goal in No. 5 Georgetown's 19-1 victory over St. John's. The Hoyas assisted 15 of their 19 goals on Saturday. Haley's goal put GU ahead 2-0 in the first quarter. He assisted the 5th, 7th and 14th goal.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Alec Stathakis, Denver, So., FOS
Stathakis went 16-of-22 from the faceoff dot for the Pios, all in the first half, picking up 10 ground balls and forcing Providence into four faceoff violations. No. 12 Denver defeated Providence, 23-10.
Jake Carraway, Georgetown, Grad, A
Carraway scored three goals and tallied three assists for a six-point outing against St. John's. With his second goal of the game, Carraway broke Georgetown's all-time career goals record with 154. He is seven points shy of the all-time points record.
