MU has three all-league players as the conference tournament begins Friday
NEW YORK – Savannah Rennie, Taylor Wolf and Hope Werch of the Marquette University women's volleyball team were named to the All-BIG EAST Conference Team, the league announced on Thursday afternoon.
The honor is the second for Werch in her career, while graduate transfers Wolf and Rennie each earned accolades in their first year in the conference.
Werch was an AVCA All-East Coast Region selection during the 2019 campaign and was named to the BIG EAST All-Preseason Team prior to this year. The six-rotation player was one of three MU student-athletes to top 100 kills and 100 digs and led the squad with 15 service aces to rank sixth in the BIG EAST with 0.34 per set. He was also the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year during her rookie campaign in 2017.
Wolf, who transferred in from Green Bay as a two-time Horizon League Player of the Year and was on the BIG EAST All-Preseason Team, has paced the Marquette offense this season as both a right-side hitter and setter. Wolf leads the squad with 2.80 kills per set while hitting .259 and sits second on the team with 4.84 assists and 3.05 digs per set. She posted six triple-doubles this season and earned two BIG EAST weekly honors during the regular season. The Waconia, Minnesota native ranks 10th in the BIG EAST with 3.42 points per frame in addition to her role as a setter in MU's 6-2 offensive system.
Fellow graduate student Rennie also made her impact felt in her first season in Milwaukee, hitting .325 with over two kills and nearly one block per set (0.98). Her .325 hitting percentage ranks fifth in the BIG EAST and she finished one service ace behind Werch for the team lead with 14. Her 0.32 aces per set mark ranks her seventh in the BIG EAST.
The Golden Eagles have earned the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Division and will face East No. 1 seed St. John's in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship, presented by JEEP, on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Central time at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Nebraska.
