Golden Eagles record personal bests, top-10 marks
The Marquette University track and field teams took advantage of a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the Melvin "Bus" Shimek Track & Field Facility, hosting an outdoor meet for the first time in two years.
The Marquette Open featured the Golden Eagles, UW-Parkside and Cardinal Stritch. MU last welcomed teams to Milwaukee on April 24, 2019.
Along with a number of new personal records, multiple student-athletes collected top-10 efforts in program history. Juru Okwaramoi's time of 14.67 just missed her personal best (14.57), but was still good enough for 10th all-time. Lindsey Mirkes cleared 5-08.75 (t4th) in the high jump to finish first and Brielle Buechler and Kelly Jacoby share ninth in the record book with efforts of 12-00.50 in the pole vault.
On the men's side, Jefferson Osunkwo set a new personal best in the triple jump of 46-08.75, good enough four ninth overall, and Vinnie Voudrie's distance of 164-06 in the discus is ninth at MU and his career long.
On Friday night, a trio of runners competed in the 10K race at the Hillsdale GINA Relays and each collected a new personal-best time. Kendall Pfrimmer led the way, finishing fourth with a time of 35:43.08, the fastest at MU since 2017 and fourth-best in school history.
"We had a solid day of competition and more than anything it was great for the team to compete at home and the weather was just a bonus," head coach Bert Rogers said. "We continue to have notable individual performances and are looking forward to that continuing next weekend."
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will host for the second-straight weekend, welcoming DePaul and Parkside to the Marquette Invitational on Saturday, May 1.
