
WLAX Ends Season with Win Over Butler

Lindsey Hill scored a career-high four goals to lead MU
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -Â The Marquette women's lacrosse team beat the Butler Bulldogs, 16-10, on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis to wrap up the 2021 season.

The Golden Eagles (7-9, 4-6 BIG EAST) were led by Lindsey Hill, who wrapped up her MU career with four goals and an assist. Shea Garcia tallied her second hat trick of the weekend while Megan Menzuber scored three more goals to cap off her glorious career.

MU came out of the gates firing once again, going up 5-0 in the first eight minutes of the game, getting scoring contributions from five different players. The Bulldogs (1-11, 0-10 BIG EAST) were not going to fold on senior day, however, scoring the game's next four goals to cut the Golden Eagles lead down to one. Sophomore Mary Schumar scored to make it 6-4 after forcing a turnover from BU's goalie and finishing for a goal after picking up a ground ball.
The Bulldogs responded again, scoring three straight goals to take their first lead of the game, 7-6. Their lead lasted just over two minutes before Shea Garcia netted her second of the game to tie it up at seven with 32 seconds left in the first half.
Butler led in draw controls 11-4 in the first half and got 12 saves from goalie Amanda Rumsey to keep the game tied, 7-7.
Looking to put the final 15 minutes of the first half behind them, the Golden Eagles re-took the lead immediately in the second half on a goal by Megan Menzuber, her second of the game. Caroline Steller and Lydia Foust tallies sandwiched a goal from BU as MU took a 10-8 lead.
The two teams exchanged the next four goals and MU led 12-10 with 10 minutes to play. The Golden Eagles finished strong, however, scoring the next four goals and holding the Bulldogs scoreless for the final 10:04.
Bulldogs goalie Amanda Rumsey saved a game-high 18 shots while Ashley Guerra led the offensive attack with three goals. Campbell Connors added two goals, the only other BU player with more than one goal.

Marquette's 2021 season has ended as it failed to qualify for the BIG EAST tournament. The 2022 season begins in February.
