KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tennessee – Marquette University redshirt junior Hunter Eichhorn moved up three spots on the individual leaderboard on Tuesday with a second round 74 in the Kingston Springs Regional of the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at the Golf Club of Tennessee.

Eichhorn (76-74--150), who is tied for 56th at 8-over-par, closed with an even-par 35 on the back nine with three birdies offsetting as many bogeys. He recorded his first two birdies of the tournament on consecutive holes with threes on both the par-4 12th and 13th. Eichhorn posted a 3-over 39 on the front nine Tuesday and entered the day tied for 59th after posting five bogeys on Monday in a 5-over 76.

He will begin his third round at 9:31 a.m. Central time on Wednesday playing with Kritsarin Oukosavanna of Iona and Van Holmgren of FGCU.

Reid Davenport of regional-host Vanderbilt still leads the field at 5-under (137) following a 1-over 72 on Tuesday. Davenport and San Diego State's Youssef Guezzale are tied for the lead, while four other players are just one stroke off the pace. The Aztecs lead the 13 competing teams at 11-under, followed closely by Vanderbilt at 9-under.

The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals, held May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Eichhorn, the 2021 BIG EAST Men's Golf Player of the Year making his third NCAA Regional appearance, is the program's first at-large selection to NCAA competition since former teammate Matt Murlick in 2018. He also joins M Club Hall of Famer Mike Van Sickle, who earned a pair of at-large bids to regionals - he was selected in 2007 and 2009 (he was a No. 1 seeded player that season).
