He's one of 15 players nationally in the running
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year's award was pushed back to accommodate the seasons affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Winners will be announced May 27 at the 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy Press Conference and Banquet taking place at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.
The MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men's and Women's NCAA Division I All-America committees. The fifteen semifinalists below were voted in by Division I coaches. From these candidates, three finalists will be determined for the coveted award.

Sunesson made the All-BIG EAST First Team after a breakout season that saw him score a team-best six goals along with two assists. Two of his six goals were game winners, a mark that ranks him tied for second in the BIG EAST. His 13 points put him in a tie for fourth place in the league while his six goals put him at No. 3 in the BIG EAST. Five of his goals came in conference play and he netted a brace in a 3-1 win at DePaul to give MU its first conference game. Sunesson was also named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman team in 2018 after scoring five goals in his rookie year.
He's played an essential role in leading the No. 12-ranked Golden Eagles (8-2-2, 5-1-1 BIG EAST) to one of their best seasons in program history. It's the second time ever the school has won an NCAA tournament game when MU defeated No. 4 Loyola Marymount in the Round 32 on Sunday. Sunesson scored one of three penalty kicks for his team as it took down LMU, 3-1, in PK's.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action in the Sweet 16 on Thursday, May 6 at 5 p.m. CT/6 p.m. ET when they take on No. 3 Indiana (9-1-2, 7-1 B1G).
