Berg serves as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research
Marquette University President Michael Lovell named Dr. Kati Berg the new faculty athletics representative for Marquette University's athletics department, Vice President & Director of Athletics Bill Scholl announced.
Berg replaces Dr. Richard Jones, who retired at the conclusion of the academic year and had served in the position since 2013.
"First, I want to say thank you to Dr. Rick Jones for his incredible work," Scholl said. "He was a terrific advocate for our student-athletes and I wish him the best in his retirement.
"I am thrilled with Dr. Lovell's appointment of Dr. Kati Berg as our new FAR," Scholl added. "Her experience as a former NCAA Division I student-athlete is something that will resonate with our student-athletes and provide a unique perspective as we continue to strive to provide a transformational experience."
Berg earned her bachelor's and master's degree in communication from Saint Louis before completing her doctorate at Oregon. She currently serves as the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research and is an associate professor of strategic communication. She played soccer at SLU, earning a letter with the Billikens in 1996.
"I will be a passionate advocate for all of our student-athletes and look forward to collaborating successfully with the varied groups this position serves," Berg said.
The faculty athletics representative (FAR) plays an important role on college campuses, providing oversight of the academic integrity of the athletics program and serving as an advocate for student-athlete well-being.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) requires each of its member institutions to appoint an FAR who must be on the faculty or administrative staff and may not hold a position in the athletics department.
