Prep standouts Skylar Forbes and Halle Vice sign National Letters of Intent
MILWAUKEE — Marquette University women's basketball head coach Megan Duffy and her staff announced the Golden Eagles' 2023 signing class on Wednesday morning, as Skylar Forbes and Halle Vice ink National Letters of Intent to play at MU.
Â
"We are thrilled to officially welcome two newcomers to our program in Skylar Forbes and Halle Vice," Duffy said. "Both women have had tremendous success on and off the court, and we expect them to enhance Marquette basketball for years to come. Special thanks to our recruiting coordinator, Justine Raterman, and assistant coaches, Kelly Komara and Tasha Taylor for their work and support to bring in tremendous student-athletes."
Â
A native of Markham, Ontario, Forbes is a 6-foot-2 forward who has experience playing both at the national level with Canada's U18 junior national team, and at the prep level with Scarborough Prep. A four-year team captain with Scarborough Prep, Forbes averaged 17.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in 2021-22. With the national team, she competed in the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas Championship, where she helped the team make a run to the championship game. She played in five of the six contests during that run, playing 19.2 minutes and averaging 5.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.Â
Â
"Skylar has an incredible upside with her athleticism and versatility in the forward position," Duffy said. "Her development really shined as she helped Canada basketball's U18 national team win a silver medal this summer. Her club team, A-Game, allowed her to gain great exposure to showcase her abilities here in the US. Marquette Nation will love her bounce, rebounding abilities and dominate inside/out play."
Â
Forbes also played club basketball with the JUEL League's Durham City Chameleons, where she helped the team to a league championship in 2022 and was named a JUEL League First Team All-Star.Â
Â
Vice, a 6-foot-1 wing, joins the Golden Eagles following her prep career at Pleasant Valley High School in Riverdale, Iowa. A four-year letterwinner, Vice led the Spartans to conference and regional titles as a junior in 2021-22 and a run to the state semifinal game. She earned first team all-conference honors and MAC Player of the Year honors after averaging 19.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest.
Â
"Halle brings versatility both inside and out. Her length, athleticism and intelligence will allow us to move her around in different positions on the floor," Duffy said. "Halle continues to win everywhere she goes, representing All Iowa Attack on the Nike EYBL circuit while also garnering All-State honors in both basketball and volleyball. Her three-level scoring will bring excitement to the Al McGuire Center."
Â
The Bettendorf, Iowa, native broke her school's single-season scoring record as a junior when she totaled 498 points. She is also an all-conference volleyball player and a track letterwinner, and plays AAU basketball for All Iowa Attack.Â
