Marquette continues its road trip on Sunday against Ohio State
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Marquette University women's lacrosse team lost to Louisville, 18-9, Friday afternoon in Kentucky.

Louisville got off to an early lead in the first quarter taking a 6-1 advantage. The Golden Eagles answered with a flurry of goals near the end of the quarter. Junior Emma Soccodato scored three goals in the first quarter with two coming in the last minute of the first period to cut the MU deficit to two. It is Soccodato's second hat trick of the season.

Meg Bireley put in her third goal of the season with an early goal in the first quarter. Bireley would find the back of the net for the second time during the fourth quarter of the match.

The Cardinals pushed back by reclaiming momentum again in the second quarter by taking a 12-6 lead into the half.

After the intermission, Louisville continued to increase their lead with five goals in the third quarter. Mary Schumar found the net for the second time in the match during the third quarter. Schumar has scored multiple goals in all three matches this season for the Golden Eagles.

The Cardinals took a 10-goal lead into the final quarter with a 17-7 lead after three quarters of play.

Kyra LaMotte added to her four assists on the day with a goal late in the fourth quarter against the Cardinals. It was LaMotte's first five-point match of the season and ninth of her career.

Despite two fourth quarter goals, the Golden Eagles were unable to overcome the deficit in the final quarter of the Contest. Louisville went on to score one more goal in the fourth quarter to cap off their first victory of the season.
