
Joe Keys Earns All-American Honors

Joe Keys was named a Second-Team All-American after Saturday's NCAA Championships
BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA – Marquette University senior Joe Keys was named a Second-Team All-American in the heptathlon at the conclusion of Saturday's NCAA Indoor Championships. This is Keys' second time receiving Indoor All-American honors and third time overall.
"It didn't come together as crisp as we were hoping, but Joe's second day was really good" head coach Bert Rogers said. "He was really pleased with how he competed over day two and just gave it his all."
The BIG EAST Champion came into day two of the heptathlon 13th overall. In the day's first event, the 60-meter hurdles, Keys finished with a time of 8.27 to take 10th in the event.
In the Pole Vault, he would go on to achieve a season-best mark clearing a height of 4.66 meters/15 feet, 3.5 inches. Keys took 13th place in the event. In the final event of the heptathlon, the 1000-meters, Keys would go on to run the second-best time of his career, 2:39.34, and take fourth place in the event.
Keys finished the heptathlon with a score of 5699, the second-best of his career, to take 14th overall. Sophomore Ayden Owens from Arkansas finished first overall with a score of 6211.
"The field this year was unbelievable. The scores needed to qualify this year were very high and it made for a very competitive and deep field."

The Marquette University men's and women's track & field team's will begin the 2022 outdoor campaign on April 1 at Illinois State and Washington University in St. Louis.
