
Track & Field Concludes Outdoor Openers

MU will host their home meet at Wisconsin Lutheran next Friday, April 8
NORMAL, ILLINOIS – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up their first weekend of outdoor competition Saturday afternoon. The teams took part in a pair of meets, the Washington University Distance Carnival and the Illinois State Redbird Invite.
WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY DISTANCE CARNIVAL
On Friday, members of the MU distance team competed at the distance carnival.
Sophomore Kate Jochims posted a top-10 finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase taking ninth overall with a time of 11:16:87.
In the men's 5K, Patrick Hetlage was the top finisher running a time of 15:07.03. In his first action since returning from injury, Thomas Leonard ran an eight-second PR with a time of 15:29.07. On the women's side, Lauren Neiheisel was the top MU finisher with a time of 18:35.87.
In the men's 10K, Jordan Janusiak (18th), Dan Weizeorick (20th), and David Zeller (22nd) all finished in the top-25 out of 82 entrants. Janusiak ran a one-minute PR with a time of 30:50.30. Crossing the line shortly after, Weizeorick finished in a personal best time of 30:52.40. Senior August Beyer set a 10K personal best as well with a time of 31:47.87 and finished 46th-overall.
ILLINOIS STATE REDBIRD INVITE
"We faced some wet and windy conditions Saturday, so it wasn't the best conditions for putting a lot of fast times or personal bests down," head coach Bert Rogers said. "We went out there and gave it our best effort knowing we might not put down our fastest times, but could still get something out of it."
Action began Friday afternoon with the men's and women's hammer throw. Vinnie Voudrie received runner-up honors with a personal best throw of 56.27 meters/184 feet, 7 inches. Allie Flando (3rd) and Lizzy Cagle (4th) finished in the top-5 on the women's side throwing PRs of 49.02 meters/160 feet, 10 inches, and 48.77 meters/160 feet, respectively. Cagle would go on to set a PR in the discus as well with a mark of 39.38 meters/129 feet, 2 inches.
On Saturday, Harry Baker took home the silver medal jumping a personal best of 2.03 meters/6 feet, 8 inches. Brady Heller took fourth overall with a PR of 1.85 meters/6 feet, 0.75 inches. On the women's side, senior Lindsey Mirkes finished in third with a jump of 1.70 meters/5 feet, 7 inches.
Sophomore Alex Lesperance took third in the long jump with a mark of 6.54 meters/ 21 feet, 5.5 inches.
In the women's javelin, Grace Mager earned the silver with a mark of 35.54 meters/116 feet, 7 inches. Mia Ketelhohn finished in the top-3 as well taking third overall with a throw of 34.53 meters/113 feet, 3 inches.
On the track, Mitchell Van Vooren posted a top-3 finish in the 400-meter hurdles finishing in 56-seconds flat. Freshman Daylee Braden recorded a top-5 finish in the 400-meters finishing in a time of 58.08.
"We competed hard, overcame so tough conditions, and are on to the next one."
