Foust tallies five goals, Schumar nets three in Golden Eagle win
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's lacrosse team (5-6, 0-0 BIG EAST) posted a 19-13 home victory against Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.
"I'm really proud of our team today, I thought we fought really hard. It was a true team win," said Marquette head coach Meredith Black. "Every single player from the bench to the field had an impact on the game, and we need that. We don't have enough superstars to beat teams because one or two players have six goals, we need every player to contribute and do their job, and that's what happened today.
Â
Senior midfielder Lydia Foust led the Golden Eagles with a total of five goals and six points, while junior attacker Mary Schumar was close behind recording three goals and four points on the day.
After going down 2-0 early in the first quarter, Marquette responded with five unanswered goals in a span of just 2:42. It went into the break with a 10-9 lead thanks to four goals from Foust and two from Schumar. MU's defense then stood strong in the second half, holding Central Michigan to just four goals through the final two periods. Freshman attacker Meg Bireley found the back of the net twice in the half to extend Marquette's lead and secure the victory.
Marquette continued to perform well on the draw, winning 23 of a possible 35 draw controls led by Mary Blee's 11.
Â
Freshman goalie Brynna Nixon spent the final 45Â minutes of the contest in the net for Marquette and recorded 6 saves. Â
 Â
Central Michigan was led by Audrey Whiteside, who scored three goals to go along with two assists.
